Character Name: Stephen Strange
Canon: Doctor Strange | Marvel comics
Canon Information: Stephen's (long) comic book history
Canon Point: The end of the Mr. Misery arc, after Stephen has absorbed Mister Misery into his body
Age: Unknown due to endless comic book timelines, also canonically Stephen made a deal with Death to live an ageless life. He looks like he's in his 40's.
God Houses:
Heimdall: Stephen has devoted his life to the mystic arts. As the sorcerer supreme he lives and breathes magic, and uses it to protect his dimension. He has accepted and understands that his mantle will eventually be the end of him, but until then he will do everything he can to help and save as many people as possible.
Odin: Stephen is, at his core, an intellectual. He was a brilliant neurosurgeon, and his intelligence has made him an even better sorcerer. He loves to learn and solve problems, to combine his brains and magic abilities to figure his way out of whatever situation he's found himself in.
Initially I was leaning toward Odin, but I think Heimdall would be the more fitting choice for Stephen.
Personality:
Stephen Strange is often described as arrogant. As a former neurosurgeon with a photographic memory and a genius IQ, as someone who is quite often the smartest person in the room, it was his defining characteristic. But the accident that ruined Stephen's hands and brought him to the Ancient One to train in the mystic arts changed his life dramatically. Learning of the vastness of the worlds around him and the responsibility on his shoulders to protect others humbled him. Sure, he still comes off as arrogant at times, well aware he's the best at what he does, but he is no longer his main concern. He is the Sorcerer Supreme of his dimension, one of the most powerful sorcerers in existence. This power combined with a sense of self-reliance, a problem-solving mind, and a mean stubborn streak, have made it so that at times he takes on threats that should be too much for him alone, to the point where he can almost be self-destructive. It's a balancing act he's still learning.
Stephen is not only intelligent, but he uses his knowledge and powers cleverly. Give him a problem and he'll find several different ways to solve it. Though the magic itself is what makes him able to go head to head against interdimensional threats like Nightmare and Dormammu, it's Stephen's intelligence that is just as important a weapon. This is proven time and again when either his magic fails, when he's without it entirely, or when he becomes overpowered. He doesn't blast spells blindly, he figures out how to escape danger and solve even the most mystical problems.
As for Stephen, socially, he can sometimes be a dick. He has lived a very long time thanks to a deal he made with Death and has seen and experienced things that would drive most mortals mad. He's generally in pain from nerve damage and the toll magic has taken on his body, and with an entire dimension in his care and a handful of nemesis' he has a lot on his shoulders. This doesn't give him a lot of time for personal endeavors or relationships as he's often preoccupied with any number of magical crisis', so he can be neglectful, abrupt, and blunt. He also has a short temper, especially when someone challenges how he wants to do something or get something done. While he's worked with various superhero teams like the Avengers and the Defenders, he's generally a loner, dealing with magical threats as they come.
However, on the flipside of this, Stephen has a lot of compassion. It's part of the reason he became a doctor in the first place, even if money and fame corrupted his former career. Even in the most dangerous battles he tries not to kill whenever possible. He lives and breathes his duty as sorcerer supreme, helping as many people as he can, usually not asking for anything in return. Outside his role as a sorcerer he loves Wong like a father, he loves his neighborhood, and has taken in a few disciples he came to care for to teach what he knows of the mystic arts.
Perhaps even more importantly, one of the cornerstones of Stephen's personality is that he never gives up. He would give his life to protect Earth and magic itself, and has come very close countless times. He doesn't stop fighting, even when the odds are stacked against him, when his magic has been stripped of him, he uses whatever tools or ideas he can come up with to win the battle. He never stops punching.
